Vallum is interested in original and previously unpublished work. Ideal submissions are well-crafted, fresh and edgy. We are committed to enriching and continuing the tradition of poetry in the present day. We welcome submissions that deepen our understanding of what poetry is and can be. We are open to most styles, whether experimental or traditional – though issues are usually put together with an underlying theme in mind, so not all poetry can be accepted, even if it is genius!

Thanks to the Conseil des Arts des Montreal’s Art Out in the Open program, Vallum will be carrying out an exciting new project! The Vallum Public Poetry Project/projet de poésie publique Vallum will be an outdoor audio installation bringing poetry to neighbourhoods throughout Montreal, in collaboration with the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (MAC), Fonderie Darling, and The Word Bookstore. The installation will feature poetry written and recorded by Montreal, Quebecois, Canadian, and International poets, with a specific focus on Montreal residents.
It is important in these difficult and isolating times to feel a sense of community, and to feel connected not only to different neighbourhoods, but also different demographics, cities, and countries in the world.
We welcome you to submit recordings of your poetry for consideration to be featured in the installation! If you have submitted audio poetry to Vallum in the past and would like us to consider it, please resend the recording. Poets whose poems are chosen, will receive a $50 honourarium.
The project will run from October 10-17th, culminating with the live digital launch of Vallum 17:2 'Space.' During the launch, recordings' of the readers' poems will play through the Vallum Public Poetry Project installation.

Submissions for Vallum 18:1 are now open! The theme is 'Invisibility.'
Sometimes the obvious is before us and we don’t see anything. Something may or may not be present. At other times, we, ourselves, feel invisible. In our current world, people often fear that what is invisible is tangible, real and perhaps a threat. At other times, the invisible may be something supernatural, a feeling, a movement to, or from, a dream-world. What are some of your encounters with the “Invisible?” SEND US YOUR BEST POEMS.
